The River
Each drop a history of time
absorbed and energised, carried to the sea.
Evaporated haze of memory,
released, recycled.
Eternal hopes set free to soar
beyond the binding shores of living’s dross.
Carried to virgin soils, endeavours cross
renewed, recycled.
Fragile the living in its depths,
a world we came from, save it from our need.
Our actions fuelled by ignorance and greed,
destructive, recycled.
Fecund imagination flows
from small beginnings to a leap of power.
Call back from childhood every precious shower,
awakening, recycled.
Rivers of life sweep us along,
fighting a straying will, great warriors
calling us from infinity, time’s debtor, to live,
recycled?
